Services

Ear wax removal

Ear wax removal by microsuction is a safe way to clear blocked ears using gentle suction rather than water. It is widely used in clinics because it allows very precise, controlled wax removal. An ear health check is charged for the appointment time slot if no wax is found – £25.

Ear wax removal / Adults

£65

Have your ears cared for in a safe, clean and private consultation room at your local pharmacy. Our trained clinicians use gentle, clinically approved techniques to remove excess ear wax and help restore comfortable, clearer hearing.

Convenient and accessible

With appointments available close to home, you can access professional ear care without needing to visit a hospital or large clinic. Being based in the pharmacy also means easy access to follow-up advice and any recommended ear care.

Ear health check - No wax fee

£25

This appointment is ideal if you are unsure whether you have ear wax, are experiencing blocked ears, discomfort, or simply want your ear health checked by a qualified professional.

During your visit, a registered hearing care professional will take a brief history of your symptoms, examine your ears using an otoscope or a video otoscope, and check for wax, signs of infection, other abnormalities.

If no wax is found, or if no treatment is required, the ear health check fee still applies.

Home visit

£150

A fully trained hearing care professional visits your home with all the necessary equipment to safely and gently remove excess ear wax. You can sit comfortably in your own chair while the procedure is carried out, with time to ask questions and discuss any concerns.

Comfort and convenience

This service is designed to minimise disruption to your day avoiding the need to arrange transport or wait in a clinic. Home visits are particularly helpful for people with reduced mobility, carers, or families

What causes ear wax build up?

Do I need my ears cleared before a hearing assessment?

How do I know if my ears blocked?

A buildup of ear wax can be caused by numerous factors, including narrow or damaged ear canals, skin conditions around the ear and an increased amount of hair in the ear.

Ear wax buildup can cause blocked ears, earache, fullness in the ear, hearing loss, tinnitus or dizziness. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, it’s important to book an appointment so a specialist can advise on the next  steps.

In the vast majority of cases, ear wax removal is not required before a hearing test. A small amount of wax in the ears is perfectly normal and healthy and has no effect on a hearing test or check. That said, if you are aware that you get a considerable build-up of wax in your ears, it might well be worth asking your practice nurse or GP to examine them before going for a hearing test.

Essentially, ear wax is an efficient self-cleaning service for your ears, and helps to protect the sensitive ear canal from things like bacteria and debris that can cause infections.

Since your body creates ear wax naturally, there's nothing you can really do to reduce the amount your glands produce. However, there are safe methods of ear wax removal that can help manage excessive ear wax.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ear wax removal should always be carried out by a healthcare professional. Avoid using things such as cotton swabs — these can be dangerous when used to clean your ears. Book an appointment today to ensure a safe way to remove ear wax.

To ensure a comfortable and effective procedure, use medicated olive oil drops daily in the affected ear for five days before your appointment.

Your body naturally cleans your ears for you, so no routine maintenance is required. However, if your body produces too much ear wax, it might impact your hearing. If this happens, it’s important to get it checked out right away to prevent further issues to your ear health.
